Paralegals today enjoy a wide range of employment opportunities in both the private and the public sectors. The MCLE will focus on characterization, classification and differentiation of a paralegal's position in a firm as an employee or as an independent contractor. The presentation will touch on the topics of salaries versus hourly wages, and job benefits, to educate all: seasoned paralegals and novices alike.

Joseph T. Ortiz is a partner in Best Best & Krieger LLP's Labor and Employment practice group in the Riverside office. Mr. Ortiz has successfully tried employment matters before state and federal courts, administrative agencies, and arbitration tribunals on claims of all types.

My Ortiz's experience includes the representation of private and municipal employers in matters such as claims of wrongful termination, claims of discrimination and harassment, and related claims of fraud, negligent misrepresentation, breach of implied employment contract, interference with prospective economic advantage, unfair competition, breach of contract, civil rights, and various forms of unfair business practices.
