Court-approved supervised visitation providers, regulated under California Family Code section 3200.5 and Standard 5.20, ensure safe, monitored, and neutral contact between children and parents. Professional providers are trained, background-checked, and mandatory reporters, while nonprofessional providers are typically unpaid friends or family. They ensure compliance with court orders, often handling high-risk cases involving abuse.
Court-Approved Professional Visitation Monitor, Nena Hernandez, ICAP’s Vice President for 2026, will describe the role and responsibilities of monitors in facilitating safe, structured contact between children and parents or parties under court order, including the standards set by California courts for compliance, and the qualifications, training, and pathways to becoming a Court-Approved Monitor.
